BFO: Basic Formal Ontology1

چکیده
Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) is a top-level ontology consisting of thirty-six classes, designed to support information integration, retrieval, and analysis across all domains scientific investigation, presently employed in over 350 projects around the world. BFO genuine ontology, containing no terms particular material domains, such as physics, medicine, or psychology. In this paper, we demonstrate how series cases illustrating common types change may be represented by universals, defined relations employing framework. We provide discussion these template for other ontologists using BFO, well facilitate comparison with strategies proposed different ontologies.

Logic and Formal Ontology1
Introduction Logic, for Husserl as for his predecessor Bolzano, is a theory of science. Where Bolzano, however, conceives scientific theories very much in Platonistic terms, as collections of propositions existing outside space and time, Husserl defends a theory of science which takes seriously the project of understanding how scientific theories are related to specific sorts of activities of c...
متن کاملBasic Concepts of Formal Ontology
The term 'formal ontology' was first used by the philosopher Edmund Husserl in his Logical investigations to signify the study of those formal structures and relations above all relations of part and whole which are exemplified in the subject-matters of the different material sciences. We follow Husserl in presenting the basic concepts of formal ontology as falling into three groups: the theory...
متن کاملFunctions in Basic Formal Ontology
The notion of function is indispensable to our understanding of distinctions such as that between being broken and being in working order (for artifacts) and between being diseased and being healthy (for organisms). A clear account of the ontology of functions and functioning is thus an important desideratum for any top-level ontology intended for application to domains such as engineering or m...
متن کاملBasic Deformation Theory of Smooth Formal Schemes
We provide the main results of a deformation theory of smooth formal schemes as defined in [2]. Smoothness is defined by the local existence of infinitesimal liftings. Our first result is the existence of an obstruction in a certain Ext group whose vanishing guarantees the existence of global liftings of morphisms. Next, given a smooth morphism f0 : X0 → Y0 of noetherian formal schemes and a cl...
متن کاملFormal Verification of a Basic Circuits Library
We describe the results and status of a project aiming to provide a provably correct library of basic circuits. We use the theorem proving system PVS in order to prove circuits such as incrementers, adders, arithmetic units, multipliers, leading zero counters, shifters, and decoders. All specifications and proofs are available on the web.
